Online Classes - Yoga and Qigong

My Yoga classes and Qigong classes are temporarily only available online. I hope, in this way, to do my bit amid the isolation of Coronavirus lockdown to support us to maintain our health, our sanity and a friendly sense of community with grounding, vitality-promoting Yoga or Qigong practice.

For the human race, there are definitely some benefits to this enforced isolation. It gives us a chance to slow down, to have more time for intimate connection with those closest to us and to appreciate the simpler things in life, reflect and perhaps even rest! But, for many, extended isolation can be hard and lead to loneliness, low mood, as well as a loss of vital support networks and the services and practices that help us handle stress better and boost our health, well-being - and immunity.

I hope to use the internet as a force for good to help to continue to provide some of that support and those services. So feel free to join us online, even if you could not previously make it my in-person classes.

Booking, Prices and Payment

For all classes:

  • You must book to attend or receive the recording of your selected online session each week.
  • Please book by clicking the button below the class you want (this will take you into the correct system for NurtureWorks- and Satyam-managed classes).
  • Please try to book at least 1 hour before the class starts - else we cannot guarantee to send you the classes' unique password that will go out at that time. (For Nurtureworks-managed classes, if you just want the recording, you can book any time before the session begins).

NurtureWorks-managed online classes

For Monday Qigong, Tuesday Well-Woman Yoga* and Friday 5-Elements Yoga, you have three options for payment for these three classes:

  • Register for my 4-week trial - £35/four weeks unlimited classes (for new students only; valid for Monday, Tuesday and Friday classes only)
  • Use your regular Yoga and Qigong class credits for the online classes - £60/6 credits - Buy new credits
  • Pay for an individual drop-in class - £12/session - you can do this during the online booking process

Concessions are available - please ask. If you enjoy any discount in my in-person classes, that remains valid online.

If you wish to use your trial or block credits, on the payment page of the booking process, select Pay Later and the class will be deducted from your active credits or, if you've run out, you'll be invoiced for a new block; or you can Pay for one session.

* This class is managed by Satyam Yoga Studio. Please see below.

Satyam Yoga Studio-hosted online classes

Tuesday Well-Woman Yoga and Saturday Yoga are hosted by Satyam Yoga studio. For the Tuesday class, you can either book through me here or book through Satyam (if you are already their client). For the Saturday class, please book with Satyam.

How to Access Your Live Class and Use Zoom

All my online classes are delivered through Zoom video conferencing software. It's really easy to use. In the little video below, I walk you through getting started with using Zoom, accessing the class and using the screen controls within the class to give you the best experience. Or you can read the notes below.

I recommend doing a Zoom test call (just you) before attending class, so you can get familiar with it and check your settings and room set-up.

Here's what to do:

  • First, sign up for a free Zoom account (this is optionable but makes things easier).
  • Then, download Zoom to your device (Zoom Client for Meetings for Macs, PCs or the Zoom Mobile App for iPads and iPhones, Android) - Remember, the bigger the screen, the better view you'll have.
  • Access your booked class by clicking Join a Meeting and inserting the Meeting ID in the Zoom Client or App or just follow the meeting's access link in your browser. These details are given above for each class and remain unchanged each week.
  • When asked, enter the unique 6-digit password for that week's class (sent to all registrants by email 1 hour before the class).
  • When relevant, select 'Open' and then 'Join with Computer Audio' - that should bring you into the class.

Guidelines for inside the class

  • Each class is password-protected, so it's a safe online space. And, after our initial greeting, we adjust the Zoom settings so you can see only me. In this way, each of you has privacy in your own home.
  • The better I can see you, the better we are connected and the more I can check on your practice and offer feedback, as in a normal class. So, ideally, place your device 2-3 metres from you so that you and your mat are visible onscreen (in a smaller room you may need to slightly change the angle of your screen for when sitting and standing). And try to have a light in front of you and not behind you (so draw the curtains over any windows directly behind you).
  • I recommend using a laptop rather than a mobile device, so that your screen is bigger and you can see me better.
  • For an undisturbed online experience, do make sure that your device is plugged in or fully charged and that other tabs or apps are closed so they don't hog bandwidth. And ask others in your house to stay off anything bandwidth-hungry and to try to leave you in peace during the class.
  • I'll open up the classroom 15 minutes before the scheduled time of the class. Feel free to come in early to get settled with technology and your Yoga set-up or to chat with others. There will also be some chance for this after class.
  • If you arrive even earlier, that's OK, but you'll have to wait a moment for the online space to open up.
  • When you enter the class:
    • Your video should automatically come on. If not, click Start Video in the bottom left corner of your screen.
    • Your audio will be muted. Feel free to unmute yourself (with another button in the bottom left corner of your screen).
    • Please 'pin' the video of me (as the teacher) to the large screen once we start our Yoga practice, so it doesn't switch when someone else talks. I'll show you how - or you can read how to do it here..

How to access the class recording

After the class, I'll send all those who registered for NurtureWorks-managed classes an email invitation to view the recorded class on a private link. You'll have access to the recording for one week and can do the practice with me as many times as you like.

Live or recorded?

For Monday Qigong and Friday Yoga, it's up to you! You don't need to specify when booking. Everyone who registers is welcome to join live and will get access to the recording.
Benefits of attending live:
  • You can connect and chat with others before and after class.
  • You'll get my personal attention - this is, of course, less effective than in-person, but I will do my best.
  • We'll be able to interact - so you could ask a question or comment, if needed.
  • You'll still get access to the recording - so you can do the Yoga practice again when you like!
Benefits of receiving the recording:
  • You can still enjoy my classes and continue with your guided Yoga or Qigong practice, even if you can't make at the scheduled time.

  • For NurtureWorks classes, you can cancel your booking up to 1 hour before the start of the class. I'll be sending the unique password for that week's class out then, so, once you've received that, you'll be charged for the session. Remember, even if it turns out you can't make the live class, you'll get the recording.
  • For Satyam classes, please check with Satyam Yoga studio.
